TERRITORY

The Azienda Agrituristica Settesoldi is situated on the territory of Salemi, a town with 15000 inhabitants of the county of Trapani. This land has been deeply marked by historical events which have left the evident signes that now characterize the city. The landscape is very rich in olive-groves and in wineyards. That is why the wine-voult are very diffuse and the very esteemed and refined wine is very much in demand. Indeed the county of Trapani is the second wine district in the world after Bordeaux.

 SALEMI

The Elimians were the first visitors of our countryAt first the villagr built on a hill was named Alicia.During the Arabian domination the name changed into Salemian (delightfull place).Salemi still has the fascinating scenery of the medieval climbing village. From the top of the hill it was easier to control the agricultural and pastoral territory. On the ancient Alicia square, raises the Arabian-Normann Castle (in the picture) built in XIII B.C. by Federico II di Svevia. Justclose to the castle you can admire the remains of the Mother Church that collapsed by earthquake in 1968.After oyu've walk down Francesco d'Aguirre street you will see the  Church of the jesuits and the College of the Jesuits (XV A.D.)in which there is the Civic Sacred Art Museum, where it is possible To see liturgical objects  and archeological finds from the prehistorical Mokarta's necropolis and from Pòlizo mountain.Next to  the Jesuits Church you can find thr Saint Loreto's house built by Giovanni Biagio Amico (1684-1754),a famous trapanese theologian and architect.Salemi is characterized by ancient district such as the Arabian one called Rabato, and the Jewish one called  Giudecca:both the district are signs of the cultural integration among people that in the past used to live together in Salemi.

Finally it is important talking about some popular traditions like the festivity of San Giuseppe , on March the 19th, in which some altars called "Cene"(in the picture) are prepared and decorated with oranges, lemons and artistically handmade bread.
